Viewing the poetic world through the prism of GITANJALI(COLLECTION OF 103 PROSE POEM WRITTEN BY RAVINDRANATH TAGORE)
The poet, RAVINDRANATH TAGORE is not only maker of modern indian literature but the maker of modern indian mind..His thinking was multidimensional who was a poet,novelist, dramatist,painter and most importantly composer of National Anthem!!
Poetic world in itself is beautiful but when we see it through GITANJALI it just add the beauty to life and tells us what exactly spirituality and devotion is!!
Ravindranath Tagore was among some of those rarest writers who both delved us into his intimate world and kept us in touch with true world through his well known poem which was originally compiled in Bengali in 1910 but later on it was translated into English and published in 1912.This poem made him first Nobel laureate from India in 1913.
Now what GITANJALI exactly mean??
Gitanjali means songs offering!!!
The poet calls God the receiver of our offerings and asks him not to accept unholy sacrifices, through unclean hand, but accept only whatever sacred lover offers. God will be with the poorest, lowest and lost as they will be quite humble. God is within us. He is Omniscient and Omnipresent. The god lies among human beings. He is in you,me and every living being. So to love everyone in this world is to love almighty and to serve mankind is to serve the supreme. The seeking of God is not the negation of God. While man bring sorrow as his offerings to God, who then rewards man with His grace. He prays to God to give him the strength to raise his mind high and above daily trifles..
Here a lovely stanza from GITANJALI poem no. 36 which tells about the aforesaid fact ::
“give me the strength to bear my joys and sorrows;
give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service;
Give me the strength never to disown the poor or bend my knees before insolent might;
Give me the Strength to raise my mind high above daily trifles;
And give me the strength to surrender my strength to thy will with love"
Another Marvellous stanza from this poem which talks about what exactly charity and spirituality is!!
I HAD GONE a-begging from door to door in the village path, when thy golden chariot appeared in the distance like a gorgeous dream and I wondered who was this King-of all kings.
We can conclude that Gitanjali is not only a poem but it is ‘a work of supreme culture’. and justly regarded the song “as much the growth of the common soil as the grass and the rushes’..
The above statement said by W. B. Yeats..!!This poem also influence culture of our country..
