FEMINIST GANDHI :AN INSPIRATION.

Image
The idea that man and women are equal and that women can't be denied rights socially politically or economically just because they are women is an idea of feminism. India as a nation has always been hard on its women. For many years and even today, women are not considered equal to men when it comes to rights and freedom of choice. No matter what laws a nation makes, no matter what judgement a court passes to protect its women, a nation can never be fully feminist unless the mindset of its citizens change.  Suppression and harassment of women, denying them rights, controlling their choice and telling them that they are meant to get married, bear children and look after the family has become such an intrinsic part of our lives that it almost appears normal and remains unchallenged by men as well as women. We need inspiration for modern day women. There are n number of feminists to look upon in india as well as in the west but i prefer to choose gandhi ji as our guide in ...

The Pandemonium Of Identity

Image
The Pandemonium Of Identity  The crisis of national identity looms high over people who have been part of exodus across borders amidst various waves of Indo Pak conflict or otherwise. The highly talked CAA passed by the Indian parliament in 2019 which did put the whole citizenship debate benefitting persecuted minorities in proper light seems to have missed some corners which really needed some scrutiny.   People who have migrated in last 20-30 years especially the section of people among the so called persecuted minorities as the newly passed CAA calls them are still facing hardships in getting their citizenship procedure done because of various reasons. So before exploring the prospects of how the newly enactments can help these group of migrants the authorities must pay proper attention to the issues faced by these migrants over the years.  For accessing legal entitlements and services, Indian citizenship is the only viable option for the migrants. But the migr...

The First Anti-Malaria Vaccine : A Gift to the World

Image
Yesterday I happened to read about the most astounding innovation of the year so far (after the Covid-19 vaccine of course). It was something we all living beings on this planet have yearned for since decades. Okay, I might sound a little naive as this was meant to show up someday, but to our surprise, it came at just an unexpected time when the world was already grappling with the awful pandemic. And with this breakthrough in medical research, we are in a way to curb all those parasitic fatalities caused by our no less a stranger disease: Malaria!   On this remarkable day of October 6th, 2021, World Health Organization (WHO) approved its first-ever anti-malarial vaccine called RTS, S/AS01 or Mosquirix.  This, indeed, has made mankind enter into a turning point in a battle waged relentlessly over decades between man and mosquito. As aptly put by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, “ This is a historic moment. Using this vaccine on top of exi...

Shastri : An epitome of Bravery

Image
Be it the Indo-Pak conflict in 1965, where he led the nation very meticulously, or the time when he lost his father when he was not even 2 years old. Lal ‘Bahadur’ Shastri as his name depicts was indeed the man with a brave heart. Surely, He never fulfilled the ‘56 inch wide chest’ criteria to be a charismatic leader yet he did wonders through his actions. Yes, It was L.B. Shastri only, who appealed for a one-day fast every week to reduce the demand for food as the nation was facing food scarcity at that time. And guess what, millions of Indians blindly followed his words and skipped their meals. Not just this, but he also supported the green revolution which made the nation self-reliant, and the white revolution which transformed India from a milk deficient nation to the world’s largest producer of milk, surpassing the USA in 1998. If this is not charismatic leadership and that too in just 2 years (his tenure as PM of India) then I do not know what is. Born on Oct 2, 1904, at Mughalsa...

Gandhi : Relevant Ever and After

Image
Born on October 2, 1869, in a Kathiawadi family at Porbandar, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the youngest of four children, grew as a shy and averse to company child. Later he became the father of the largest democracy. The long journey that ended with the words " Hey Ram" is an inspiration in itself.   Having common sense, compassion, truthfulness, and righteousness alike values imbedded by himself in his life, he stands above all. Living life with such ideals is a legacy that's what Albert Einstein had said about him " generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth. "   Praising someone can only have two valid reasons, as I think, first is a compulsion and second is passion and respect. Youths with violent and revolutionary thoughts will end up blaming Gandhi for many things which we see today. He has been opposed during his lifetime and now his ideas are challenging the materialistic hum...

Gandhi : Man of Action

Image
As we all know that today is the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and it is not very surprising that he still seems to be present by his words and his actions. Isn't it what being timeless means! This often compels us to ask few questions. What made Gandhiji so famous? Why he's denoted as the Father of Nation and no one else? What made people follow him and his not-so-conventional way of nonviolence?   Everyone among us has written a ten-sentence essay on Gandhiji. Knowing him back then was just a matter of few marks. While growing up, talking about truth and nonviolence seemed to be very vague. Now, when we are legally adults the mere realization of the fact that how much courage you need to leave your comfortable life for the sake of the nation is enough. Today, we appreciate him even more not just for what he has done for the nation but what he had said back then still makes a lot of sense. At the time when Gandhiji came back to India, it wasn't that...
